Biography:
Born and raised in the Des Moines area, I have fond childhood memories, raised by loving parents who wanted the best for me. My father worked at Meredith Publishing, but on nights and weekends, his favorite pastime was working on construction projects for neighbors and friends. And that's where my construction career began - picking up nails and carrying wood for my dad and his friends for 25 cents an hour. Yet even at his early age, I had a passion for the building process.
During my senior year at Urbandale High, my shop teacher had two of us enter several of our projects in an industrial technology competition at UNI. To my utter amazement, not only did my projects do well, but I was one of four people awarded a four-year scholarship! The problem was I didn’t want to go to college, thinking it would interfere with my plans to run my own construction firm. After much coercion from my family - especially my older sister - I decided to give it a try. Now I'm so glad I did, because at the start of my sophomore year, I met Carol, my bride-to-be, and have appreciated that scholarship ever since!
After graduating from UNI, Carol and I moved to Austin, Texas, our pickup loaded to the hilt with no job in sight. Well, the jobs came in along with three children and seven wonderful years of great experiences and deep friendships. But we felt a call to come back to Iowa and did so in 1989. That's when we started building new homes in the Des Moines area. In 1993 - the year of the flood - I realized the risks prevalent in the homebuilding business were not the best fit for me, so I began doing a small amount of remodeling. By 1995, I knew remodeling and restoration were my passion. I am as confident and excited about that decision today as I was then, because I thoroughly enjoy working with the great team at Firstcall.
Outside of work, I strive to be the best husband and father I can be. I enjoy being with people, especially focusing on the spiritual level, where we can help one another grow in maturity and character. I am involved in church leadership and in helping our community support traditional biblical values.
My favorite movie is, “It’s a Wonderful Life” and I’d have to agree with George Bailey - I do have a wonderful and blessed life!"
